In the last quarter Stewart House has seen a marked increase in enquiries regarding Corporate Social Responsibility program opportunities at Stewart House. This has resulted in the creation of a wide range of mutually beneficial programs.
Companies that have participated in our program have included:
- Goldman Sachs JB Were;
- Commonwealth Bank of Australia;
- American Express; Credit Suisse;
- GE Finance;
- The NSW Teachers Credit Union;
- Merrill Lynch
- fundraising activities;
- volunteer gardening;
- renovation work;
- the organizing of an event for children that stay here;
- plus other activities.
To be successful, it is important that Stewart House staff meet key representatives from each company to clearly agree the results that they are keen to accomplish.
Feedback from company employees has clearly shown that the opportunity must be fun, whilst giving meaning and purpose to someone's life. Many have stated that through the efforts of teams of volunteers it has “glued” staff together when the postal worker has worked alongside the HR Manager, CFO, receptionist and so on.
One Chairman recently explained why they had decided to introduce a company-wide CSR Programme. “Out of 4,700 employees in Australia, with an average age of 26 years old, many want to know what our company is doing in the community and what they can be involved in. We want to be seen as an Employee of Choice. We don't expect people to stay for ever but for as long as possible. In fact although hard to qualify, churn rate has dropped from 20% to 15%”.
