Term 1 2024 Program Highlights

In the first term of 2024, we hosted almost 400 students, representing a quarter of our annual student intake. The children arrived from the surrounding areas of Bankstown, Parramatta, ACT, Penrith & Blue Mountains, Tamworth, Armidale, Wollongong, Blacktown, Shellharbour, and Batemans Bay.

A new Program activity in 2024 is our pizza-making class with a pizza cook extraordinaire. The children enjoy a demonstration of how quality homemade pizza is assembled, including making dough from scratch, selecting the toppings and then actively participating in creating and enjoying their personally customised pizza! This creative culinary experience encourages discussions about toppings, flavour combinations, and reflections on making homemade pizza from scratch. Above all else, the children get to enjoy their delicious creations.

Parliament of NSW Tour

In March, 22 students from 14 different schools attended a special tour of the Parliament of NSW. Local members* from the electorates where these children reside engaged with the group in a lively chat about the parliamentary process.

Students exhibited interest in learning how to become politicians and were eager to explore approaches to influence policies. A popular topic discussed was the reduction of school days and the prohibition of homework!

We are grateful to the staff of the Department of Parliamentary Services and the MPs*, who gave the children an exceptional experience.

*[The MPs included the Hon. Ryan Park (Member for Keira), the Hon. Paul Scully (Member for Wollongong), Mr Warren Kirby (Member for Riverstone), and Dr Hugh McDermott (Member for Prospect).]

Mounties’ Easter Bunny Visits

Before the Easter break, the Easter Bunny and Mounties Group staff made a special visit to our students. The children were delighted with the visit and enjoyed some chocolate treats.

Stewart House has been supported by a local club, the Harbord Diggers (a Mounties Group club), for many years, and we are grateful for their continuous support.

We would like to thank the Mounties Group for helping to create special memories for the children of Stewart House.

We appreciate your support in 2023! It’s wonderful to return for our 93rd year of caring for public school children in need. The delight evident on the faces of our students indicates that their experience at Stewart House was fantastic.
